nothing like a good fettling under the hood [/quote]

I've always found a good fettling under the hood produces a very distinct sound

You're quite right Tommyboy but... er... that vid is of a Scooby with the equal length manifolds, it sounds watered down and buzzy compared to the WRC96 version with unequal lengths and proper growl as driven by the then world champ Colin McRae.... like this one....

That's why I'm keeping unequal lengths on my Forester. Not as nice a sound as a 10v 5pot (which IMO sounds better than that fancy lahdedah 20v stuff) but at least I can get parts for an old Subaru and not worry about making some noise

How can you be sure it was you driving?

Sadly, from those clips, it's a little unfair. The quattro shots do more justice to the sound than the vulcan clip respectively. To truly appreciate the Vulcan, you need to be close by, to feel it affecting your heartbeat and breathing....

As for the train clip. What a waste of bandwidth...

Totally agree... And I know it wasn't me driving, it didn't overload on first take-up... All English Electric locos overload rather than de-compound like Sulzer engined locos.... Being brought up on Sulzer locos, the first thing you learn to do on EE locos is to 'learn' each locos terminal overload point... And the only way you can do that is to wind it up and let it overload.
