Default Audi 2.8 Cabriolet Brake Accumulator & Delta Radio

Not a total surprise that after 25 years the odd part needs replacing.

Whilst we managed to get brand new roof rams from Audi Tradition they don't have any replacement brake accumulators. If anyone has one, knows where I could source a decent one from or anyone who can repair ours I'd be very grateful.

Now also need to replace the original Delta radio as the numptys that replaced the starter motor did something and its permanently stuck in SAFE with 2 vertical lines. Tried the usual processes but no joy. An online radio specialist said that one of the capacitors ( he gave a technical phrase) has gone and can't get them from Blaupunkt anymore. So if anyone has one or knows please shout out.

We're up in sunny Yorkshire.

Many thanks.

Auto Doc do the bomb. Febi one and good quality. Or if you want to stick oe, Pliesdes garage (Citroen specialist) will refurbish your old one for about £60.

have you tried here: (I have no affiliation or experience with them)

The cost form Pleiades is a bit higher now I think. Maybe £90??

Which accumulator do you have? It's probably the later one. They are available but £200-300. The pressure hose fitting is different on the earlier vs later versions. You can fit a later version to an earlier car version with a different banjo bolt.

If you have the later one, I have one of those on my car that's only a couple of years old. I'd trade it for a working new(or new-ish) early version-but not a 25 year old one!

Default FEBI v REBUILD

Thank you both for the guidance.

I don't know if it's the early or later version. We had the pump on our 1.8 rebuilt by The Steering Specialists in 2016 and its been faultless but I understand that's a different set up.

I'd prefer to keep as original as possible but appreciate not always possible. The issue arose following a PAS pump rebuild and within 200 miles lost all fluid; it went back to same place who believe the catastrophic loss is due to the accumulator failing which they said they've seen before. They're stripping and rebuilding the pump again at no cost as GOGW.

That being the case am following guidance from my garage who I do trust and either to replace / rebuild.

I will call Pleiades tomorrow to get the ball rolling as that's the preference .

Re: the radio, we've got the code but apparently once it's in the state it is its terminal

Once again, I'm very grateful for your help.

If you undo the banjo bolt holding the power fluid hose to the bomb, and look at the end of the hose, that will tell you which one you have.

If its a plain metal circle, that's the old one. Sealed by copper washers top and bottom.

If its a circle with a flexible (nitrile?)seal in it placed in a little circular tray, its the new type.

Default '99 cabriolet 2.8 brake accumulator

BackintheFold: many thanks for the information and guidance.

I spoke to Pleiades garage this morning; what a refreshingly nice guy to speak to. They advised that provided the diaphragm hasn't gone they can refurbish it for £70 with a turnaround of 2 days. If they've any other concerns about it they would let me know.

Once again, may thanks to everyone for their help.
