Default New car daytime running lights

I've recently noticed that several makes of new car have front day running lights, located where the front fog lights would previously have been, that appear to be working in conjunction with the vehicles steering.
If a car is turning or even just manoeuvring to its right the left side running light goes out and vice versa. Does the car have to be turning or moving at a set angle or speed before this feature operates and just what is the point of it?
I know that some cars running lights automatically extinguish when the indicator is operated, if they are positioned close to that indicator, but this is a completely different operation.

Not sure, but on a similar note I find these new Audi indicators ludicrous and ridiculous, to quote a famous Scottish entrepreneur

It's the new cars with poser front daylight running Led lights but no rear ones that amaze me. Seen so many cars driving about at night with no rear lights on as the driver isn't aware as he can see the light cast by the front ones!

Why is this a thing? Why don't they just do the Saab and Volvo thing and both front and rear lights come on as daylight running lights. All pose no sense!

Guilty of that myself, first week of getting the new car. Fortunately I realised but took me a while. The LED's were almost as bright as the normal lights.

And of course the dashboard lights come on automatically as well so it's no wonder really

Several years ago I had someone run up the back of my A4 (an American soldier in an enormous American SUV). He was insured by the US military, and my insurance was through work as I was running the A4 as a company car.
Drive assist got word of it, and arranged for a courtesy car for me - a brand new E class Merc. It took them 5 weeks to repair my A4, and they charged out the Merc at £150 A DAY to the other guys insurance.

Anyway, the Merc had front fog lights which would light the "inside" fog light on a bend to supposedly light up round the bend for you. I thought that was a pretty pointless gimmick, but turning the outside light off when cornering seems completely pointless.

I don't like those daytime running lights as they cause more problems than they solve. If visibility is poor, turn your lights on, so the tail lights are on too. Countless times now I see cars driving at night with only the daytime running lights on. They dazzle from the front, as they don't have a proper beam pattern, and the cars are blacked out at the rear.

Seeing as the new cars tend to have LED tail lights, why don't they just make them come on all the time too?
I find those new Audi animated indicators to be a distraction, and I think they should fail an MOT test. I can't imagine a chav with a Nova getting though an MOT with those back in the day...

They are a bit tacky and attention seeking for my liking. And like you say distracting. I wonder if there is any science behind it or just another gimmick.

That said if someone parked one in the drive and handed me the keys I doubt I would say no
