Default Well..It wasn't the thermostat - hopping Cabrio

Symptoms - Drives fine for about 3 miles then "Kangaroo Hops" on gentle acceleration. After a few more miles settles down but drives as if ignition is retarded. Absolutely no problem at 80 on the motorway!

Plugs, leads, distributor cap, air mass sensor, temp sensor, filters all changed. Garage is talking about injector unit or possibly fuel pump, but admit that it is guesswork.

Getting a new relay 30 just in case....

Does anyone know what type of fuel injection the 94 2.0E 8v ABK engine used? I see stuff about Digifant and Motronic, but can't get a clear picture.

I am determined to get this car running sweetly, but have no time right now and garage labour rates are hurting.

Digifant, only digifant...

I can guess too - what about oxygen sensor? Have you changed that yet?

Its not something as simple as a clogged fuel filter is it, causing fuel starvation?

Thanks for the thought, but new oxygen sensor and new fuel filter.

Fingers crossed its the damned ECU relay....... Seems to come up quite often on the forums.

I suppose the bright side is that when I do find the fault I will have some nice shiney new bits that will last a few years...

Default Bizzarre Fix - but it works now!

can of injector cleaner in quarter full tank and a couple of hours at idle - no joy

Relay 30 was new (maybe previous owner was a forum emember )

BUT

While under dash panel was out it was apparent that Relay 203 was rattling all the time and went crazy when the kangaroo act came in.

Not sure what this relay does and it does not appear to be engine related. Changed it in desperation and...... perfectly behaved engine

Unless it has a function that is not fully documented, I can only guess that the "chatter" was causing irregular voltage/interference.

.....or maybe the injectors finally freed up, but that does seem a bit of a coincidence.
