Default Life on Mars/ Ashes to Ashes

We just started to receive "Ashes" on BBC America, haven't seen it yet. The first add I saw had the "Quattro" featured in a snipit. I know you mentioned this on the Forum. My question, autophilia aside, is how's the series and it's predesessor?

I looked up Life on Mars and this series has lots of cool 70's cars in it.

Life on Mars was great. Very fresh and original. We watched the whole series start to finish

Ashes to Ashes was a much poorer effort in my opinion only made bearable by a certain car and Keely Hawes. It just played too much on caricaturing Gene Hunt who was already a caricature of seventies english coppers so for me it never really worked. We watched about 4 episodes before drifting away.

Fair enough. Thanks Emjay.

If Life on Mars is released on US compatible DVD I'll look into that series. The orange Ford GLX is pretty sweet.

Try hacking your dvd player to play PAL versions.....tis what I did......
Mind you if you have a Sony dvd player its difficult......

Got to say , i enjoyed both. But then i'm a sucker for anything from "my" era! I would give Life on mars the edge, probably because of the excellant Jon Simms.
But i am glad they have carried on into the 80's. You cant go wrong a show that has Phillip Glenister, Keeley Hawes, early 80's music and a quattro! I think the new 'Ashes' airs next month, i cant wait!

Life on Mars was superb, Ashes to Ashes less so but still very enjoyable.

I preferred A2A as it was more my era with the cars and defo the music. You can't beat a bit of Visage and the mighty Human League. Just needs a bit of Kraftwerk, correct spec LHD quad lamp Venus Red 81 quattro and the jobs a good'un.

Bonus, I looked on the BBC America website, and we're getting both series, showing back to back starting March 7.
