Anyone got a good, working used part or know where I can get new old stock from?
4A0 905 849 B as supplied by our friends at Audi doesn't fit the drive lug on my lock barrel, totally different profile. I suspect i need the non-b variant of the part? Will upload pics later on that show the differences... Oh yeah, 94 Audi 80 b4 by the way! |

Hey buzzin...
I bought an ignition switch/barrel for my '92(J-reg) B4 80 sedan from my local dealership in July 2014, had it fitted without any issue, part number being different the the one you have quoted: 893905851D Hope this helps! ![]() [EDIT] B4 80 sedan part numbers generally start 8A0 or 893 in my experience. I think the part number you've been quoted/sent is for an A4 model as it starts 4AO - did the dealership find the part number or did you give it to them? if dealership then I should hope that they would exchange on account of ordering the wrong part for your vehicle, certainly worth asking. ![]() Last edited by leggy; 01-06-16 at 05:24 PM. |

If the dealers have not come up trumps I'd be inclined to try Pete reeve at quattrocorner as he does get things right most times and can source the obscure

Thanks for the replies gents...
Turns out I require the C suffixed variant of the 4A0... part number. Despite providing my reg plate, they supplied the wrong part! Also tried to charge me again for the correct one! Needless to say, I pointed out the error was theirs, not mine, in a diplomatic fashion! Thanks again for your help. Fingers crossed anyway! Quattro corner noted for future reference. |

Well, for you that might be surprise, but there's nothing surprising. The difference is that lock with letter B is ordinary one, and with C is for cars with immo. You gave them useless letter and number combination which only tells in which year the car was first registered in UK - with VIN code they could have tried to find in manufacturers database if your car had immo or not - maybe.

Spoke with my local dealership earlier today...
the guys in the parts dept have been with them ever since I bought my 80, and as such, they're quite knowledgable when it comes to ordering parts for my boy. ![]() So whilst I was on the blower with them, I also asked them for the part number for the ignition switch (on it's own as opposed to with the barrel as I'd purchased it!), and they in fact came up with two part numbers: 4AO...B - this being for the 1992-1994 models. 4AO...C - this being for the 1994+ models. I then explained/asked why the first one didnt fit your 94 model, and I was told that the ignition system was changed at around the time that the cabbie was launched, so for later post-change B4 80 models you would need the 4AO...C switch. So there you go, some useful info for you, and for anyone else looking to buy an ignition switch for their '94 B4 80. ![]() Last edited by leggy; 05-06-16 at 11:30 AM. |

Well, the saga continues!!
My C variant part arrived today, opened the bag and it contains another B variant! Not fixing the car this weekend then! Some good info there leggy, hopefully it will prevent someone else living through this ball ache? I might investigate buying the lock assembly as you did, this is getting ridiculous. Thanks again everyone. |

Sorry to hear that buzzin...
albeit it's not uncommon for parts from the factory to arrive in incorrectly labelled bags, had it happen once myself (didn't order that part from my local dealership either!), but jeez, what a pita for you! Tell you what, if your local dealership are unable to reorder the C variant for you, send me a pm and I'll do some digging this end on the barrel/switch part that I ordered; availability, price and whether it will also fit your '94 B4 80 ![]() Last edited by leggy; 05-06-16 at 11:31 AM. |

Sorted!
That's an incredibly kind offer leggy, but thankfully one I don't need to take advantage of. 3rd time lucky, finally got the correct switch from the post office (missed delivery) this morning and spent the afternoon reassembling my dashboard. All good now. Thanks again everyone for the advice and support!! |
