Ok, Ive modified my sunroof panel this morning by trimming the seating flange for the seal by 1.5mm on the front and rear edges, still no joy the things just too bloody big to go in.
So, before plan B (on my build thread) goes into action I thought id go to the head of audi with a list of complainees if possible. What we need is a list of all people who have bought one of these diabolical seals that dont fit, maybe a short description of the problem from each participant and then ill copy it all down in a letter and send it via registered post to the head of the company in order to try and get something done about it, cos right now im about 80 euros down and still havent got a product thats fit for purpose. That irritates me a lot, so please, add yourself in to the thread asap and ill sort out a letter of complaint, a sort of class action type complaint and try and get some movement on this untenable situation. Heres goes number one. Dear Sir, I received my order (number**********) from Audi tradition on 9th october 2014, and due to work commitments and slow progress of my vehicle restoration I was unable to attempt a fitment of it until a few weeks ago. All appeared fine until i discovered the new sunroof seal did not allow the sunroof panel to close, it was held off the roof by around 10mm. All attempts to fit the sunroof panel with the seal attached have proven fruitless, a check of the sunroof aperture revealed its width was 400mm but the seal was 405mm uncompressed. With the seal compressed the seal was measured at 402mm therefore it is still too large to fit the aperture . I have since attempted to remove material from the sunroof panel in order to enlarge the gap and provide some extra clearance, however it is so oversized and of a poor fit on the sunroof panel that the seal still will absolutely not seat in the aperture. I contacted Audi Tradition some weeks ago with my query and photos with a request for either a refund of the cost of the defective seal or a solution of some kind, I have heard precisely nothing from them. Such treatment of a paying customer is unacceptable, as is the supply of defective parts. My total spend so far with Audi Tradition is 911.16 Euros, a not inconsiderable sum for anyone so the lack of communication regarding a defective part and resolution is a rather large irritant. Since the part is defective on size and fit, I require a refund and if at all possible some indication of why this problem has even occured, perhaps the origin of manufacture and a contact for the manufacturer is possible? I realise my vehicle is 32 years old but the quality of fit for a new part on say one of the new R8 models would I feel be met with a look of absolute horror, it wouldnt be acceptable for that, neither is it acceptable on my vehicle. Regards, T.Warren Please add on your own names under this please if you will. |

Completely agree! I have a WR with one of these so called genuine seals and it looks awful! I have another seal for my RR but, I'm not fitting it as the RR seal doesn't leak its just faded to light grey! So, it looks crap but works! I would rather explore how to get it back to black than replace with these allegedly genuine seals! I've also seen a few others with replacement seals and they all look dreadful! Count me in!

Spray some black paint from aerosol onto a rag and then dab the material/seal, it will turn it back to black

Dear sir
I am a long term owner of a 1985 Audi Quattro. It currently would benefit from a replacement sunroof seal. However, the sunroof seal being supplied through Audi tradition, et al, based on the experiences of several of my associates, is actually too large and the sunroof can not be closed. Therefore, I, along with my fellow enthusiasts, still require a seal. I understand that many requests have been made to find a solution, but sadly there is little reply forthcoming from Audi. As an owner of no less than five Audi vehicles, I'm finding the continued fall in quality control and support to be rather concerning. Yours sincerely Mark Hanman

I was considering getting a sunroof seal kit for my B4 80. If tradition is this bad throughout the full range, could you guys suggest a better alternative?

Ok, we have a resolution of sorts.
No solution as to the issue of poor fitment but at least a refund is on its way. Dear Mr. Warren, Thank you for your email dated 5 April 2015. Referring your request we would like to inform you that we have not received your first query to Audi Tradition. We regret the experience you had with the sunroof seal and would like to apologise sincerely for this. A contact for a manufacturer is not possible. All service matters - also relating to Audi Tradition - are exclusively settled by our Audi dealers and General Importers in the respective countries. Therefore we ask you to contact directly one of our Audi dealers in your area. Gladly we will issue a credit gesture of goodwill. Therefore we need to know your bank account. Please send this information to the following address: Auto Union GmbH 85045 Ingolstadt Germany Tel.: +49-841-89-34433 E-Mail: audi.tradition@audi.de So at least ive clawed back the funds, I still have to modify this bloody panel though. Oh well, do it I must. |

umm, it could be read that Audi UK do not want anybody buying bits without going through them......even though Audi UK are not the slightest bit interested....
Gordon Bennett it's enough to make one buy an MG or Triumph, they seem to have loads of stuff remanufactured for their cars.... |

Indeed they do. Visited a friend the other day who has six pre war MG sports and racing cars (early to mid 1930's) and he's never stuck for parts. If he does have trouble locating anything through the club or one of the suppliers, there seems to be any number of specialists willing and able to manufacture alternatives even for cars of that age.
