Default Anyone interested in a 2.0 JS engine?

It's a later one with hydraulic tappets. Trouble is the tappets are super noisy! Well I think it may be just 1 or 2 tappets that are making the noise

Tried changing the tappets and the problem got WORSE!

So I'm taking the engine out as I've got a 7A engine to go in. May make a good donor engine for someone?

It's done 121k so not too high on the miles. Apart from the tappets it runs well. Usual cold start issue (partially cured by disconnecting the cold start valve. So I suspect the injectors are leaking.)

Any interest? Perhaps you'll change your mind when you hear it running!

It sounds like it hasn't got any oil in it.

Seems a low mileage engine to have such noisy tappets. I've had them like this in the past and quite often it's down to low oil pressure rather than the tappets being worn out.

One engine I had was as bad as this, it wasn't till I pulled the sump off that I realised what the problem was. Somebody had been very generous with a liberal application of a silicon type sealant on the sump gasket, most of which had dropped into the sump, broken up and clogged the fine mesh on the oil pick up, thus starving the engine of oil.

Another engine was improved greatly by simply getting rid of the cheapo oil filter that had been fitted and replacing with a genuine one.

It's had a few oil and filter changes and the problem doesn't seem to have improved. Will maybe investigate when it's out. I've given up on it now.
