Hi all, my car is Audi 90 coupe 1990 2.3 7a engine
I’m a little stuck I’m trying to find were crankshaft position sensor is and I’m having no luck, does anyone know where this is having a diagram of where it is. I’m having problems starting the car up it just keeps turning over but never starts I’ve checked all of the usual even tested the injectors. So the last thing I need to check (I think) is the crack sender, as I’ve been to this send the message to the injectors to put petrol into engine, If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks David |

Crank sensor is on passenger side of engine next to the gearbox, you will see 2 sensors together mounted on an alloy block.i can't remember if its the upper or lower one offhand

The one nearest the engine is the firing point sender that picks up the single pin mounted in the flywheel.
The other sensor counts the teeth on the ring gear

another thing worth looking at is the drive gear on the dizzy. The original ones on the 7a engine were bakelite and have a tendency to break down and will give you the same symptoms. You can replace these with the brass gear. Think it was quattrorob who was selling these.

Sounds like a no spark problem.
It's very rarely the crank sender.

Just take the cap off first and see if the rotor is spinning when cranking.
If it is spinning smoothly all the way round the drive gear is currently intact.

So what does a crack sensor actually do?

It finds crack! Which ain't so easy in this neck of the woods I can tell you, the Police do a very good job of finding it all, before I do..
