Another Odemeter thread with a twist

Me again. Been driving 80 B2 to and from work the odometer is not working.
Found this in the instrument cluster on the speedo side of the binnacle today

Come of this I assume

from somewhere in here?

2 Questions I am hoping someone can answer

How do I get it apart to find out where the cog came from?
Where can I obtain a new cog from?

No need to take apart.

The cog should be on the shaft that sticks out on the LHS - It meshes perpendicular with the worm drive ( the white /cream coloured shaft)
If you are VERY careful you could stick the gear back together with some quick setting plastic weld - I would advise against superglue as it sets too hard and will probably cause more damage than it repairs - however, if I were you I would get a unit from a scrapper and replace just the broken bit on yours.
ISTR that the cog is secured with some sort of epoxy on the shaft - may need to GENTLY warm it up to get it off.

Found picture on internet. There is a guy in hungary (?) selling new cogs on ebay... 3D printed cogs...

found him on ebay based in Zaalegerzeg i've been there :-). Mine is a 21 tooth :-( Think the one he has fixes the later odometers. I will send him an email. If I am correct in my assumptions my part also fits the early golfs so may be worht him looking into it.

As always takes longer than you hoped. I tried a repair using the plastic weld abut it would not take. Even got a washer made at work and tried to use an epoxy whilst in a vice. This did not work as the cog would not grip the rod. I could have glued this to the rod but decided to source a new cog
I ordered a new cog from a bloke in Germany pretty sure he gets them from America.

Part arrived and I fitted it the other week. Finally got it into the car on Monday night.

Note the blob of epoxy to make sure it stays on.
