I'm throwing this out to all here, I know we have a lot of very handy lads here so someone should have a bit of advice for me.
We moved into our house last October, there's a fine sized shed at the end of the garden which up until last week was used for all the sh*te that came with me in the move. Note I said me, according to the misses it's all mine and she only has useful things. Anyway, as I cleared out one half of the shed I noticed that next doors tree had over the years decided it didn't like the wall in its way and has 'pushed' the wall inward. See the pics below. My question is my esteemed fellow audi enthusiasts is this; what can I do to stop the (very slow) march of this inward wall before it falls down. I was thinking of bracing it in a few places with flat bar by bolting them to the wall, but all suggestions and thoughts would be welcome. And no, I'm not going to ask yer man next door to cut the tree down. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Cut the tree down, excavate roots out, demolish wall, and rebuild.
![]() Nothing will stop a tree dude, looks like single brick, the wall? There's no practical solution really.* * by which I mean, you either need to move the wall, or the tree. Building a steel reinforced retaining wall inside the shed, to hold up a wall, would be somewhat overkill, and would require to be a metre deep into the ground, through the offending roots of the tree! I was hoping someone wouldn't say that! That buggers that idea. Yeah it's a single brick wall Missfire, I can't see yer man next door letting me do that, best I can hope for is knocking the wall and moving it.

The neighbour is responsible for the tree on their property
A bit of legal mumbo jumbo summary http://www.inbrief.co.uk/neighbour-d...d-by-roots.htm It wont help make friends with the neighbours though ![]()

This is the problem with society today.I'm just inside the M25. Nobody wants to take responsibility over anything.A bit like they couldn't give a .... While he's alright jack why should he bother.
14 years ago i built a massive shed well more like tiny bungalow as i wanted it to look nice.It has proper eves, guttering a pitched roof and a valley, windows a door all built on the traditional brick plinth type construction like the old barns were built. The neighbour at the back built a fire some months later and i could work out it was too close but i thought surely he will be on top of the situation. The next day i decided to climb onto my shed/bungalow roof and peer over the back only to find the bastard/prick had singed the hell out of my rear ship lapped wooden wall. I was fuming but like an idiot just left it. Not long after that he knocked on my door to ask for a football that had made it's way into my garden. Braison selfish indulgent twat springs to mind.He has since tried to cover up the fire damage by planting lelandai trees. There are big now and if they do anything to my building branches will be cut and the roots will be poisened. I am afraid if you don't confront it you will only end up like me bitter about it. So what do you do, allow the wall to be further compromised eventually becoming dangerous or do you deal with it? Neighbours.........if i could get away from them i would,as in afford a nice detached house with the nearest house being 100yds away. |

Like you I'm also just inside the M25, and I know what you mean, people are all for themselves in this part of the world and I can't imagine he'd give much of a sh*t. I don't really know him except in passing so asking him to knock his tree down might be a bit of a problem. I'm from the countryside myself so this craic with neighbours mystifies me. Mind you I've had some lovely neighbours in my previous addresses in London, I still see some of them as they're great friends. Thank god I have no neighbours on the other side of me. Where abouts are you living? (pm me)
It still leaves me with the problem with the wall though. I think for now I'll brace it to keep it steady until I can come up with a more permanent solution and I get to know the neighbour better, maybe he'd like to get rid of the tree. I'll see how it goes. Last edited by theschmallfella; 07-03-15 at 01:02 AM. |

Random post, sh*t who left that link there..
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girdling That wall isn't, like, actually holding anything up is it?! Like a roof? Doesn't look very safe, keep children and pets away! You could take it out with a hammer and build a wooden wall, like a 4x2 stud wall with some kind of cladding pretty cheap maybe? |

now how did that get there? ![]() Er, well actually it does have a roof attached to it, but it's only one section of the gable wall and the other half is fine. If I was to knock it the roof wouldn't fall down (he says hopefully!!) Now where's my saw... ![]() |
