Default engine mount

can anyone help; i notice the front engine mount on my '89 b3 coupe is not captivated in any surround just the rubber protrudes towards the front cross member with fresh air of several m/m all around, there is a flange with 2 mounting bolts in front of it ,suggesting somethings missing could it have rotted off? the car is still silky smooth ,so its surprising.

I'm sure I'll be immediately corrected if I am wrong but think this is how its supposed to be. The bulk of the work is done by the other mounts this front one is more of a "bump stop" for any forward movement from the engine. I saw a few years ago when buying suspension bushes polyurethane replacements are available if it is worn out but havent come across the need on either my current or previous b3 90s...

Items 20 - 27, it's not a mount, it's described as a limit/stop

It stops the front of the engine rising under acceleration.

I welded a bit of short pipe onto my crossmember for a 360* snub mount to stop it diving under engine braking, like a sport quattro one.

Just had a look on vagcat, the part number is 331199311. so does appear to be a passat only item!

holes look very offset in the image, in reality they are slotted and start more or less level with the centreline of the hole the rubber bush sits in.
