ok im having a mental block! the evaporator is the canister item found behind the wing? ive got a couple of those but they are like a filter and should be replaced if the air con has been left open/exposed to moisture.

the part you mention is drier

evaporator is located under the dash inside cab (in the same housing with blower)

I don't know why I didn't know that

ive got a couple, the cars didn't have gas in them when I scrapped them but I would think they are ok.
