Default Audi 100 GL C1 wanted!

Hi,

You may have seen the 100 in Tibet Orange which was for sale recently at a dealer who may be related to 4 Star petrol!

I negotiated a Mike Brewer style deal and bought it for £18,000. Okay, a very high price but, if you had seen the pictures, you would realise that it was in fabulous condition, or was it?

Having driven 150 miles home in true 70s style I decided to change the oil - just to make sure. What came out can only be described as sludge. Following that revelation I had a go at the coolant. NO COOLANT! Only severe rusty water. Having refilled both and been on a drive to thoroughly warm it up I left it overnight. Next morning, top hose, flat as a pancake and enormous hiss when the radiator cap was removed - blown head gasket.

Worse was to come. Removing some of the stuck down carpet in the boot revealed some severe rust with holes where you could see the ground! A badly welded panel completed the disaster.

To be fair to the dealer. No hesitation on giving a full and total refund so full marks to them. They were selling it on commission and as far as they were concerned it was as good on the inside as the outside looked.

I offered £10,000 to buy it in its current state but this was refused, so be on the lookout for it reappearing elsewhere!

Which brings us to the point of this post. If you have a beautiful early 70's 100 I have the loot waiting! You can be assured that it would be going to a good home as it would be joining my Renault Caravelle, Renault 10 & Fiat 125S. All in amazing condition and living happily in dehumidified garages!

4 Star Classics can polish a turd!

Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, but that's a story for another day and not on here.

There was a chap on here selling his fathers pretty much 1 owner from new 40k from new C1 100 for around £4k last month, which to be fair, is where abouts the values of these lie. I've really no idea where 4 Star source their pricing to be honest. I had a similar instance a few years ago when a chap bought a 100 Coupe S from them for a rather hefty 5 figure sum and came to me for an agreed valuation and got rather upset when I would only sign one off for around half the amount of what he had paid, and having pointed out 2 others for sale, he soon realised he'd grossly overpaid.

or if you're after something even rarer for your collection, I have a 1968 Auto Union Audi 80 Variant which is for sale.
Audi UK want to buy the vehicle but not until the launch of the new A4 at the end of the year, but happy for it to go to a private collector for the right price.

sympathetically restored 7 years ago and done about 200 miles since. Engine is a full concours restoration so no worries of rust or sludge!

Thank you for the link.

Have sent a message about the blue Audi.

Your 80 Variant looks great but it's really the 100 I am after.

Had a couple of 100s & a 200 Turbo which was a great machine but ate turbos!

The guy with the blue Audi has decided to keep it. That C1 is truely remarkable.

I saw the 4 star unit, cannot believe that they would offer something like that up.

They did have an Alsaka Blue Metallic C1 with some scraped paint work in their stock about three years ago, they wanted £3kish for that then, but if they still had it I'd have thought they would have offered it.

PM me as there may be some options, these are like hens teeth but when good go like the devil, well up to about a 100 that is

The water coolant thing, not unusual, late 70's saw a change in the make up frost protection, that usually screwed up the aluminium bits, led to crappy brown water, overheating and running rich on the auto choke.

Can I ask why the yen for a C1, are u bothered on a 100, 100LS, 100GL or Coupe S?

Would love a Renault 30 TS or TX me

Meant to say u can get frost protection now that doesn't screw up the aluminium bits

It's almost a trading standards situation isn't it!

20K for a C1 sedan?!? Wow.

I had my black beauty for sale four years ago...and couldn't get $6K (U.S.) for it.

If you think '70s & '80s Audis are under-appreciated in the U.K. you wouldn't believe how unappreciated they are here.

If you are patient you will find a good one- give it time. What about a fellow named Matt here on the forum who had a white one...does he still have it? That one appeared to be super clean.

Good luck!

His was a RHD rust free Australian import and he couldn't give it away at £3k and that was only a couple of years ago.

That's why I can't understand some of the pricing of 4 Star Classics, although the onus is down to the person buying the car and not doing their homework in the first place on market values.
Rule number one when looking for an old car, go to a forum where you'll find plenty of enthusiasts.
