Hello , i have stupidly lost my only key for my graffed up cab . its 1993 with a round top key . please tell me its too early to have an ignition immobilizer .? i said to myself for 10 weeks i really need another key cutting , STUPID BOY !! i need to move the car to get all the bits and goodies fitted in time for ADI and coming in a 30k mile 2.0 cab would be no fun in comparison .
the boot is open . i can get the lock out and have it X-RAYED to have a key cut ( GEM SECURITY BRISTOL £35 ) , obviously this is no good if it has an immobilizer . i would due to need hot wire the thing just to get work started as i have a spare lock set of sorts but with an immobilizer ring thingy . thanks in advance . Been there done that with my S2.
I went to local Audi Dealer. They had the record on their database of the original key number and cut me a new one. Job done. Worth a try but take your V5 and some ID.

Really not sure. I had a 92 Audi 100 that didn't
have immobiliser, so you may be lucky. Did you notice if your original key had a small removable bit near the base of the metal? If it has, thats were the chip goes. The new key can be matched to the immobiliser unit in your dash by the dealer. It was a connection to the factory in Germany at the time I had my new key, not sure what the system is now.

gonna be around £200 is it not . TBH my 1997 has a square topped black plastic key with little cover on the top for the chip , the 1993 key has a round top and no chip panel , so fingers crossed . the bristol audi main dealer is only 1 mile away . old B4 stuff like nuts and bolts are reasonably priced , like the four cab roof securing bolts and nuts ( high tensile ) £5 for a set of 4 . not bad , its just £85 a hour plus vat they charge for a 17 year old apprentice to have a go on your car whilst paying him £3 an hour apprentice wage . i have never come across a main dealer that does not blow chuncks or find unnecessary work like a new CAT or wheel , when not needed . thanks for the info steve . cheers |
