Exclamation whats this sticky stuff?

I've just bought a pair of rear BREMBO discs and pads but the discs have a thin layer of slightly brown tint sticky stuff on them? any ideas what it is? I thought it might be glue from when they sealed the box or something?

Should I clean it off with some spirit/turps before I fit them? or is it suppose to be on there?

Never done brakes before so thought I check first before getting the towel out and cleaning them up.

Normally a grease protective coating from corrosion, Usally stored in damp warehouses,
bit of thinners will do a lavley job.

Get it cleaned off !!!!

Its just to stop them going rusty while they are in the shop. A can of brake cleaner is best but petrol will clean it off aswel. Dont get any on the pads either

Question

thanks guys... will clean them up

just another quick question, my pads seem to have only come with two bolts (presumably these are for fixing the calliper to to the brackets)

will it be okay to just re use the old ones on the one side?

Yup, a wee bit thread-lock and they'll be fine.........or you could just remove the lower bolt and swing the caliper up so as not to disturb the upper bolt.
