Default Audi coupe 20v coolant temp

Hi all hope your all well. Just wonder if any one new why the temp gauge never goes up munch goes to about quarter way when you drive normal but when you drive abit harder it goes down. Iv put a new thermostat in and it's still the same. Do the 20v run colder then the 10v? Thanks for your help.

If you have put a new thermostat in and its not getting up to temperature you have either got a duff thermostat, temp sensor or dashboard fault.
Was it a genuine thermostat? i personally would only fit genuine.
Does the gauge go up if you are sat in traffic? do the fans kick in?

They generally dont go faulty but you never know. Its more than likely a sensor or dash fault. My temp gauge sometimes goes up to operating temp and other times only partially up
Have you got anyone near you that has a working car so you can change the dashes over?

It was a long time ago when i had a 20v as a daily drive and i cant remember what mpg i got. Dont think you want to here how many miles my S2 20vt does to the tankfull
On a good run (300 miles) at 70 mph on the motorway i got 35-40 mpg for my 80 2.3 10V.
Around town it is probably closer to 25.
A cold running car will not do good mpg.

I once saw 360 miles to a tank in my 20v fwd coupe. That was on a steady run on the motorway and it was agony to not drop it a few cogs and floor it! Haha

The flip side is its also used half a tank in 2 15mins sessions round mallory park a few years ago. Oops

My 90 20v is on it's third thermostat with me... The original one was stuck open, the next one (aftermarket) didn't last a week before it was stuck open, the most recent genuine Audi stat brings the temperature up to a qtr on the gauge. It heats up to halfway in town & drops again on the highway, so sounds much like your car.

I've still got both the main & aux radiators on my car, wondered if it was something to do with that?

I'm getting 29.1 mpg in a mix of mainly faster B-road driving & some town driving.
