Default 1.6L Diesel. Did you guys get a Tachometer??

Over here in the US the few Audi 4000 diesels with the 1.6 L Normally Aspirated engines, we never got Tachometers.. Just clocks!

I was wondering if anyone has one with a tach in it? It would make me hunting down the proper parts a lot easier.

I was told it was very tough to do a swap into it from the Gas engines as the reference pin is not there.. But I havent received my 4k diesel yet, and I dont have any spare 4 cylinder clusters laying around..

Audi didn't fitted D/TD engined cars with tachometers, unlike vw which did. The usual route for someone to do that - petrol instrument cluster with tachometer and impulse splitter to make it work with signal from alternator W contact.

Ok. That's what I thought. Just wanted to see if it was different across the pond

Thanks

Nope there were no B2 diesels with tachometer I'm afraid, some B3 TD cars have one though.

I doubt that, as even B4 with ABT engine and even 1.9 TDI very often got big clock instead of tachometer.

Well my brothers B3 80 TD came with one. Depends on what the first customer was willing to pay for a car..

Absolutely!, the thread further down discusses that, I didn't read it all to be honest, but thought there might be things that Driggs could learn from if he didn't know what he was going to do already.

msh - regarding safety - I've seen the way you jack your car up
