Default KV Fuel distributor removal ?

I managed to get a metering head/fuel distributor from weymess, very kind man , thanks very much Mark
all seemed fine until I discovered my original ,
Has an electronic connector on the side of the air flow meter??
....
Could I take the top part off (fuel distributor) without too much hassle ????
I would like to just swap the fuel distributor , hoping everything doesn't all fall out when I take it of , & is it just secured by 4 torx head bolts ??
, as I think this is where the problem is
Cheers peeps in ardvarnce.....

The box on the side,is the differential pressure regulator(1985-1987)according to my Bentley manual?EDIT(Just noticed yours is a 1989,so mightn't be??)
The earlier(1984)systems,never had them.(Bentley manual.)
When you take the bolts out, watch out for the plunger dropping out.If you damage the plunger, you can't replace it.You have to renew the whole distributor, because plunger and distributor are machined matched.
Bentley manual also advise you to,renew the gaskets.

What's wrong with your 90?

Hiya Karl ,its gone from bad to worse ....
Checked & cleaned all injectors , weymess very kindly supplied
Another fuel distributor , swapped fuel pump
Fuel filter dizzy cap & arm all no good ,
It started off where you could tickover & drive it on low revs ,
If I tried to boot it , it felt like it was missing on 1 or 2
Cylinders. & now I think the more i mess with it
I just make it worse ,
Dave 20vcqdriver is on the case , so i know he'll sort it eventually , I'm out of my comfort Zone now ,as they say.....
But he would like to check the fuel pressure &
Also the non return valve ,is working .

Failing ignition coil can give these symptoms. BTDT!

When I tried to take apart a fuel distributor I could not budge those Torx screws - in fact the driver broke.

Thanks for info, I'll check ignition coil ,
I managed to swap the fuel distributor ok,
& was hopefully careful enough not to damage
Anything ? .....
And the problem was still there when I changed it .
It has now got to the stage where it Wil barely tickover & any hint of extra throttle , it'll cut out , I think I may have messed the timing
Up as well , as I have also replaced the regulator on the side of the normal
Distributor , ( a little knowledge can be dangerous ) well
It is in my case

I'll also add that I got chris to remove injectors, frig fuel pump on and lift plate. This resulted in 2 injectors stopping working altogether as plate was lifted higher. Still does it on spare metering head, hence my thoughts of low fuel pressure. Could be blocked fuel line, non return valve sticking, dodgy injectors clogged with crud etc. Just have to eliminate each item at a time...

Some advice for you guys.

Don't ever take the fuel distributor apart, it will leak once you put it back together and you won't be able to get it leakfree again, BTDT and screwed an otherwise good distributor

Also if you replace the fuel distributor, only use one that came recently from a good running car. I had multiple but all were laying for quite a while and therefore f*cked. I'm on my 4th distributor on my CQ now and it cost me more than €1000,- in total to get it running right, ouch!

Yep, Its a precision piece of kit, hence why Chris swapping whole assembly over without dismantling the head itself.
Also, the unit on the side with the electrical connector is a potentiometer and attached to the plate pivot point and think it is only used to alter the timing slightly dependant on load, sure Demon tweaks used to sell a modified module for this that increased performance a bit too, but I'm going back 20 years ..

Ok Set timing up correctly and working pump & pre pump filter fitted, Set CO to give a nice tickover but if you open the throttle at anything other than snails pace it stutters as if it has no fuel. Tried a spare pressure regulator that helped but not much.
Normally these cars are fault free of this type of issue as purely mechanical system, with enrichment instant, as you lose inlet manifold vacuum the regulator instantly reduces the pressure on the plate to allow it to rise further and add extra fuel.
So there is still some way to go yet Going to test line pressure next and then see what the pressure at the plunger is like as should change depending on inlet vacuum...
