Default 2084 & 2079 vag tools required

Hi, I am looking for vag tools 2084 and 2079 so that I can sensibly get the cambelt done on my typ 44. Does anybody have these for sale / rent? I am loathe to go any further with scaffold poles on the ends of breaker bars for now...I fear I may put the earth off it's axis when/if it finally goes!

Where are you? It will make a difference to where you can sensibly borrow them from a logistical point of view.

I have them and am in west Northants.

You don't really need the 2079, just a very high torque three quarter inch drive wrench (mines about 5 feet long) and the 2084 to lock the crank with. I don't lend tools out (i'm still waiting for my Sykes Pickavant Clutch aligner to be returned), but don't mind stopping by if I'm in your direction and cracking it free for you.

Where are you based, give me a shout if it helps

as Roger says ^^^^^^^^

I used a breaker bar with an high impact socket easily available from Halfords to bust the thing off once the crank was locked.

The 2084 crank lock though is a must. Don't attempt any other methods you may read on here or elsewhere as they are inherently dangerous and may cause damage to yourself, or car or both

Good luck and your location may be helpful to your cause

How are you currently locking the engine?

You can make your own lock tool easily, cut a notch in some 2" box, a tube would be a better fit but I found box cheap so used that.

Mine

2" box section and a pair of stilsons works as well

I would use a good socket and bar, cheap ones burst which can be sore.

Thanks everybody, i'm based in Bournemouth but the car is currently on the Isle of Wight (Hi Roger btw, and yes it's your old pearl 100 Avant) Finally getting round to doing some jobs but this bottom pulley is causing some fun to be had Anyway my chap has had a 3/4 drive air gun on it, scaffold pole on a breaker bar, but not happening. I'm looking to source the proper tools for it otherwise we are just going to cause much more expensive issues elsewhere....

Windy gun has no chance.

Breaker bar and scaffold pole will do it, but the torque is huge. Really huge if also glued in, but it should be fine.

My locking tool is currently at coxy's, I think. I could have picked it up on my way to Bournemouth yesterday.

Hi, I'm on the island and have a crank locking tool (box section like above) you can borrow. I can drop iit over whenever this weekend. Message me your number or address and I'll drop it by.
