Another thing to consider (and you may have done this already). Remove the screws from the the coolant reservoir, remove the cap and run the car up to temperature as you do so hold the reservoir in the air, you still may have an airlock somewhere. I also thought it might be the cable but someone else thought that as well - I had the opposite always hot!
