Is the cable located correctly into the internal door opening lever, if not quite right the door locking operation can not try and lock a door which is trying to be opened
Or to put it another way, if you were trying to open the door from inside by just pulling slightly on the lever, your locking op would not be able to function, its all to do with the inner cable separating properly from the outer cable.
