from the other side of the fence, as an employer, I do believe in a fair days pay for a fair days work and don't pay any less than 20+k to my staff.
Yes, I could offer a lot less and many other companies do, but that's not what it's about really.
The thing is, with more people than jobs, employers can keep the wages down as people will work for that amount.
When we moved in to our house last August, we had a lot of stuff than needed doing/clearing etc etc and we got offered hired help for £30 cash a day (for an 8 hour shift).
For me, that almost amounts to slavery and I couldn't do that to be honest.
I was happier paying £80 as a day labour rate as that's what I felt he deserved to get paid for what he had done.
