B2 sport rear disc conversion
Afternoon
Bought 83 b2 80 sport yesterday from a fellow member, It hasnt been on the road since 2004 so the running gear needs a overhaul. Now i'm wondering does any one know if mk2 golf rear disc assembly will bolt on, and does any one know the part numbers for hand brake cables? Or part numbers for alternative rear calipers and hand brake cables. Thanks in advance |
Have a look through this thread for the ins and outs of it

I've not looked at the link yet but I'm sure they do and I believe one may need Scirroco 16v handbrake cables.
This is quite a lot of work for relatively small gain. I'm fairly sure that the Sport already has bigger rear drums than 'ordinary' 80s 200 mms v 180mms -- and several sessions, in separate years, at Castle Coombe in the early 1990s resulted in few problems with the rear drums ! |
It's only because the rear drum set up is totally shot on mine, and I have so many mk2 golf parts laying around. Thought it would be a good idea to upgrade
|
if you have the parts, or most of them , then that's different!
I must admit I had thought of it myself a few years ago, probably better feel from the brakes andno linings to adjust !! Early on I had some problems with the self adjusters on mine but eventually it was resolved and no trouble since , but.... |
I decided im going to keep the stock drums, keeping the old girl original :)
