New Roof/ Headlining Audi 100 1990 C3
Hi,
My 1990 C3 100 Saloon is in need of a new roof lining . Anyone have any idea where I could get it done or does anyone on here have experience of doing them and fancies quoting on it ? Regards |
In this part of the world where I live it is usually done by owner or fellow enthusiast with experience - requires thick two layer cloth and glue, which could be found over here in shops specializing in supplies for furniture upholstery repair/renewal. I did this some time ago to B3 passat limousine aka sedan, IIRC materials cost approx 20 pounds. Knowing that average briton usually discards his old furniture instead of repairing it, makes me wonder how hard would be to find that kind of stuff in UK...

You can buy headlining material and glue on ebay, and probably furniture cloth too, but we have to pay nearer £50 in the UK, sadly just part of life being ripped off living here as we have to help prop up many European countries who neither wish to be Soviets or pull their weight economically but still expect the protection of the IMF, ECB and NATO. :D

If high prices of such stuff would be because of need to prop up something, that would be because of need to pay benefits for so much jobless persons :razz:

Segals motor trimmings, black friars road Manchester, you require foam backed headlining in grey (?)other colours available, they will post and very helpfull. The hardest part is cleaning the old headlining off !

roof lining
I have to do mine too, and not looking forward to it. The orange gunk is awful and is really sticky so i think a scraper and hoover should do it, and also havent a clue where to go for new lining.:wall:

first. Missfire ran a thread about doing a new cover, albeit on an avant, rather than a saloon. I have to do my V8, as well.
I've been quoted £500 to get it done at an upholsterer. Too much in my book. So I shall go down the route of re-lining mine. The head lining on the t44 cars was sacrificial. Audi intended it to be destroyed, not repaired. 20 years later, and I thick we all know how practical that approach will be. The upholsterer was proposing removing the foam backed cloth, and cleaning the residual foam off. But leaving the card in place. A technique they use on many more modern cars, as this is the way a lot of cars are built now. But the description he gave did seem to require 2 guys. and that also suggests that both know what they are doing. I'm going to try Missfire's route. The difficulty with a saloon shell will be access to the glue face. So I imagine it will put the car out of action for a short while. |

hi everyone iam a coachtrimmer up in Scotland just outside Edinburgh, just to let you know guys don't have a go at doing this job unless you have the right glue the glue I use is Dunlop s1358 iam not on here a lot but if you wont any more info just ask alan:nod:
