Strange golf mk11 starting problem.
Hello, we've given up...
My next door neighbour's golf has a mind of it's own, the local independent mech is a bit stuck too. I will bump start with a push, but won't start off of the key. The ignition system works, but was misfiring once warmed up. The starter system works also. But they don't work if you try to use them both at the same time.. Ever seen that before? Thanks:tup: ( 8v GTI ) |
are the battery connections tight?

Wonder if the ignition switch is faulty?
If itll start from a bump that seems to indicate to my miniscule mind that the necessary connections to power the ecu/ignition etc are all functional, yet when sitched to start position it would appear theyre diconnected. Dosent really explain why itd not catch after the start position was relaxed tho. You and your obscure electrical issues....:p |
Yep, cranking over like a new car, it pops once, as you let go of the key, as if it's trying to fire.
It seems like first ignition position is being disconnected when you go all the way to the starter position, i'll have a look a the ignition switch.:hmmm: but I think that's been checked already. Strange one. |

Okaydokie! it's sitting down at the garage, next to my dad's zafira, which broke, again, today...

If theres no joy with any of the above then check the earthing points are good.
Try disconnecting the 5th injector incase its spraying too much/flooding/dropping system pressure during cranking. If you can do an earth to earth voltage check on some components during cranking like, fuel pump, hall sender, coil... Less than 0.1v should be good. |
Thanks! Wiil do, i'll give that a try at the weekend,.

I had a similar problem many years ago with a VW 412 Variant ( much too old for many of you youngsters to remember !! )
In fact the key body was turning slightly in the housing and disconecting one of the contacts -- so if you started it carefully the key body turned and it wouldn't fire, if you 'carelessly' flicked the key over and released it quickly the engine fired instantly. I was told I nned a new lock assembly but in the end I just packed a small piece of plastic material into the barrel area to hold the barrel more securely. |
