1990 Audi 90 20v sport- which stereo

Evening all,

I've taken out the aftermarket stereo on my '90/'91 (H) 90 Sport as it was drawing about 0.25a at all times, resulting in many a flat battery. As the car is otherwise unmolested I'd like to try and find the correct stereo to put back in. Does anyone know what should be there?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

My Aug '91 90 quattro Sport 20V had the original stereo in it, which was a Blaupunkt Canberra. It was one of them ones with the credit card type security code. My Oct '90 90 Sport 20V had the extra cost dealer option of a Pioneer head unit and CD changer, but I can't remember the actual model number. Both were in the cars from new.

do you mean what it most likely came from the dealer with or would a period radio do?

chris,

for the life of me i can't find the ebay link i posted re a blaupunkt stereo last week i think. it was listed as "audi 80 quattro stereo".

i did post it for the attention of dave (daveallew) so maybe pm him for the link if he has it. it's not listed on ebay just now but the seller definately hadn't sold it when the auction came to an end.

best of luck,
craig

All 1990/91 Model year Audis came without a stereo as standard (with the exception of the Ur quattro 20V and V8). There were a choice of various stereos available as an extra cost option. From memory, they were a selection of mainly Blaupunkt models and a few Pioneer units. There is a brochure from that period (which I did have, but was passed on when I sold J73 GNH) which lists the available units.

Dont think any models came without a stereo other than the Polo and base Golf but I am prepared to be proven otherwise.
The cars always had a base radio/cassette with the option of upgrades if you paid a few pennies more – often tended to be that the posher the car the more likely of an upgrade. I would have said, perhaps Blaupunkt Cambridge....

........ but any model of the age would not be out of place

This is similar to the Canberra, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blaupunkt-...item35b9abaecf

That stereo would be more 1986-87 vintage, similar as to what came in the Audi 100 CC/CD and Audi 90 CD etc. The radios in the Audis of that era were at extra cost (again except the Ur quattro 20V - Blaupunkt Toronto - and strangely the more expensive V8 had a lesser spec radio as standard). It was only much later that Audi supplied a radio as standard at no extra cost (certainly by the time of early A4s - Sony clip off front units) Certainly a world away from the factory fit Bose systems of the recent A Series cars.

Most definately not so !

The 80 Sport we bought in May 1990 came without any type of radio.
It did have a smart blanking plug clipped in, complete with four rings embossed on it !!
We actually fitted a 'face off' Sony unit, along with remote alarm/unlocking but only after a few weeks of .......nothing !
