Not an Audi! B5 Passat Saloon TDI

I've been looking for a B5 Passat TDI saloon SE (110) for about a month now. Most of the ones I've investigated are either not as described, miles away or there's something dodgy about them - quite often mytextcheck comes back with Cat C write-off or something similar.

Anyway...I'm after a genuine car, ideally with full service history and not excessively high mileage (although this wouldn't necessarily put me off if it was FSH). My budget is about £1,200 as it's going to be a cheap daily for work. Looking on Autotrader and eBay I should be able to get something reasonable for this money - it's just finding the right one.

I live in Dorset. If anyone is selling one or knows of of one that's a decent car, please let me know!

PS - the only colours I don't like are red and white (says he with a red CQ!)

Will, don't let a CAT C or CAT D car put you off buying one.
My A6 daily is a CAT C after having a front end bump. Fixed by a body shop but recorded on the register so the value of the car gets reduced as it affects the amount the insurance will pay out should it be in an accident again. On the plus side of this, it potentially means you get a lot more car for the money.

I would't mind buying a Cat C or D at the right price. I went to look at an A4 TDI yesterday near Bristol - the giveaway was the bumper was a difficult shade, the metal panel under the bonnet was written on in white marker pen (from scrapyard) and the indicator had been bodged back in using silicone sealer rather than buying a new one! Anyway, the bloke was genuine, didn't actually know and was extremely pissed off when I gave him the bad news! I offered him £500 for it as that was literally all it was worth but he paid £1,300 four months ago so he said he's not worth selling and he'll keep it.

They are out there, I paid £600 for my tdi saloon b5 from a guy at work. Its been brilliant for the miles i've done in it. I was looking at a estate recently for more space tho.

I'll keep looking. They seem to hold their value (and some of them are quite blatantly overpriced).

This looks promising - description is better than the photos!

Good point - my vans a cat C and.... errr, yeah, that doesn't really prove anything :wall:

Oh yeah - it means it's got a panel with no rust on

I'd go for that one.

I think I prefer that one too. Don't think I'd pay more than £1,000 for it though (bearing in mind it's done over 170K). I know that's nothing for the TDI engine but I've seen others with fewer miles.

This one looks promising:

Anyone in the Birmingham area fancy looking at a Passat for me?! :ihih: :p

reserve is £925 so he'd probably take £900 for it if you offered him cash for a quick sale.
