[quote=theschmallfella;323769]Hey, thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll be going at the car again on Saturday so I'll give an update here. Anyone have any suggestions of the best method of flushing the fuel system?

To answer a few questions, Steve T63, the pump is inside the petrol tank on the 100 and the filter is a large one up under the bonnet, it does seem like there's not enough fuel getting up there and I have my suspicions about the pump at the moment.

Ah, lift pump in the tank then.
I've just had a similar issue with a Mk2 Scirocco. Been stood for 15years and put back into service. It ran for a while then would stop, then run, then stop. We found that the inside of the tank was fill of rust and debris. The car would run mixing the fuel with the debris in the tank which would block the filter on the lift pump and stop the car. Once the car stopped the debris would fall back into the tank with the fuel and the cycle would start again. It was a case of going through everything and giving it a through cleaning.

It's got to be connected that it was fine until you ran out of fuel. Either way I'm sure with all the advice here you'll get to the bottom of the problem sooner or later...

Crack the fuel pipes both ends in the engine and tank end and put the airline down them. Clean each component at a time and I'd be having a look at the filter on the tank too

Type81, do you mean tapping the petrol tank from under the car where the pump is?

Im not too familiar with your Audi 100....But yes..where you see your fuel pump cover hole on fuel tank.

it could be the case alright, I haven't seen the inside of the tank in about 10 years, when the last pump was put in, there could be a lot of crap in there and I wouldn't know. That's gonna be fun, I'll be stoned out of my head on Saturday, the tank is full to the brim with petrol! :arf:
